Next Year, No Really!

How does the universe schedule hockey events? Is there any sort of discernible pattern? Most Canuck fans were familiar with the 12 year pattern. 12 Years into the franchise's existence, the Canucks made it to the Stanley Cup finals. 12 years later, in 1994, they again made it to the finals. The pattern was broken in 2006, and since this pattern only seemed to indicate an eventual finals loss to a New York based team, no harm, no foul. Would we have had to lose to the Devils and watch them have their Cup "parade" in some god forsaken New Jersey parking lot?
Whose Record?

With Henrik Sedin's 3 point night against the Ducks, Hank is back on a pace that could potentially approach the Canucks single season record (how's that for equivocation). If he continues along the same lines, he'll end up with 109.702 points, but I'll leave it to Canucks Army's stat specialist Cam Davie to figure out how he picks up the 0.702. Maybe that's the value of a second assist on an empty net goal.
The Art of The Deal

It's been said that the best kind of deals leave both sides unhappy in the end and I guess this can be applied to the Ryan Kesler signing. The Canucks most definitely wanted him to sign for less (what team wouldn't), somewhere in the $4 million range. Ryan Kesler (and his agent) probably wanted to hit the proverbial home run and get a contract approaching $6 million per season. The fans, of course side with the former, not out of any disrespect to Kesler, but merely remembering Kesler hinting at some kind of home town discount (a la Burrows) and dreaming of using any saved money to get one of those shiny, new unrestricted free agents on July 1st.

I'm sure everyone remembers former Canucks and current Leafs General Manager Brian Burke. Face it, it's hard not to. Burke's never met a TV camera he didn't love. He has a bombastic personality and has a penchant for making the biggest trades while on the biggest stage.

Oh my god Luongo is the worst goalie! We should trade him for a puck bag and used jock straps!
Or
Roberto is a God! He's the greatest goalie in the world! No, not just the world, the whole effin' universe! Gold Medal Baby!
