Attack of the Killer "B"s

So, what are we talking about here? Just a quick glance at the title might suggest a return of Brian Burke, and his murderous level of BS to Canuck land. Or perhaps I'm completely of the rails, having not written anything about the Canucks all summer, switched my interest to a study of the danger of genetically altered bees.
Luckily, it's none of the above. It's the classic "good news/bad news" scenario. The Canucks, at least on paper (God, how many titles would the Canucks have by now if they just started playing this damn game on paper?), are positively teeming with talent. The bad news, it seems almost exclusively to be of the "B" level variety.

Does this this signal the end of "The Eastern Bias" in the NHL?

I don't think I'm alone in this, but one of my greatest days ever was the day I realised that I'd never have to do math ever again. Now, I don't mean that I never count, I've got 10 fingers and 10 toes for that. (Interesting sidebar, unlike Alberta, no one in Vancouver has more that 10 fingers or toes. As a condition of Mark Messier signing in Vancouver he demanded all people with extra digits have them lopped off. Only the Greatest Leader of All Time could lay claim to anything to do with the number 11, Wayne Maki and genetic freaks be damned.) After I'd taken my last math class ever, I boarded up that part of my brain, hopefully to be never used again. But, of course as only a love of hockey can do, I've been pulled back in.

I don't feel like writing anything today. I doubt anyone feels like reading anything today. Too depressed, too heartbroken, too disgusted and just too angry. Can't do any analyzing as to what went wrong, don't want to do any prognosticating as to what the future could or should hold. I'm not ready to even think about all the good things this season had to offer like first time scoring champs and green men advantages.
Canada's Team?

While probably wearing his vintage blue and green Canadian Alliance pajamas, Conservative MP James Moore declared on his twitter page "The Canucks are Canada's team in these playoffs". Now putting aside the obvious fact that there's another team that just happens to be subtly named after the people of our country, Moore's premise of one Canadian NHL team that the whole country can get behind just isn't gonna fly.
Don't get me wrong, there's a certain kind of logic to the argument. We should be hoping for a Canadian team to win because their fans will fully appreciate it, at least they'll care. The NHL's been lucky the last couple of times getting Pittsburgh and Detroit as Cup winners, cities where hockey actually matters, but we have ended up in places like Carolina and Tampa Bay. I bet you a shiny new loonie (luckily for Canadian teams, now actually worth something) that if I went down to Raleigh and while being piggy-backed by Cam Ward, conducted a random, on the street survey about their beloved Cup champs , I'd get more punches in the face than I would any sort of acknowledgement of their gloried hockey history.
