As the clock wound down on the Flames recent 4-2 victory over the Canucks, the game descended into a series of flying body checks, chucked knuckles and post whistle scrums. This mirrored the previous game, a 4-1 Vancouver victory that ended in an ice clearing brawl and a $50,000 fine to Calgary coach Bob Hartley.
That fine is the only supplemental discipline the NHL has handed out in a series that has featured gratuitous head shots, sucker punches, at least two last minute instigator penalties and numerous infractions that were ignored by the officials. It's been a rough series and because of the NHL's typically pedestrian response to the violence, it figures to get even uglier.
The NHL's system of justice is broken. It's been broken for a long time. Here's how and why they keep getting things wrong.

About this time last year we at the Nations were trying to figure out a way to make the seemingly endless lock-out interesting (and to keep the lights on as our advertisers fled in terror).
Flash forward 12 months and we're bigger than ever after adding Brian Sutherby, Daily Faceoff and getting JetsNation on its feet (with the help of some great new contributors). We have some big plans for the future and will likely be adding even more content, gear, features, contests and fantasy type games very soon.
Of course, none of this is possible without all of our readers. So thank you for sticking with us through the dark times and continuting to make writing and reading here interesting, challenging, fun and rewarding.
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays everyone.

Due to popular demand Draft Street is back on the Nations. We ran some Free Rolls for DS last year and got some really good feedback, so we approached them about getting this going again for us again this year. They finally acquiesced when I threatened to send Wanye to their house with a bullhorn and a clown costume.

We just wanted to remind everyone there is a few Canucks Army riot shirts left. We're only printing off a limited number of these puppies so make sure to get 'em while they're still available.
Click the link to buy and within a few weeks you will have a classy, elegant garment suitable for evening galas, soirees, box socials, weddings, Bar Mitvahs or even future riots should some pop up down the road.
Remember, we're also donating a portion of the proceeds to the always worthwhile Five Hole For Food.
Great cause. Great shirt. Get it before it's too late.

By now most of have heard of this new Budweiser red light thing. For those of you living under a rock (or who PVR every game and zip through commercials), Bud has come up with a replica goal light which you can sync with your favorite team, install in your house, and have it go off every time your club scores. IT'S LIKE ACTUALLY BEING AT THE GAME. Especially if you like to have belligerent drunk friends over to watch the match with (err, drunk ON BUDWEISER of course. Enjoy responsibly and all that).
