Game Day for the Vancouver Canucks is finally here!
Most of the veterans have remained in Vancouver, but there are still some interesting players to follow during tonight's game with the New York Islanders in Kraft Hockeyville - Terrace, BC.
The likely lineup for tonight's game can be found at the Canucks website here.
Here is who I will be watching tonight.

The Canucks have been given a small blessing in disguise. As Pavol Demitra recuperates from shoulder surgery to start the season, his spot in the line-up is freed up. This gives Alain Vignault a little more flexibility to slot in one of the youngsters.
The question now is: Should Coach V slot in Sergei Shirokov or Cody Hodgson?

There was some worry around Vancouver over the length of new contract extension signed by Roberto Luongo. Some said that it was too long, and that the Canucks were married to Luongo for better or worse with no ability to move him. However, we learn now that there are clauses in Luongo's contract that benefit both him and the Canucks and give both parties a way out.
This creates only one thing - a specific window of opportunity for the Vancouver Canucks to be a legitimate contender for the Stanley Cup.
So, can they do it?

The Vancouver Canucks announced today that they signed all-star goaltender Roberto Luongo to a 12-year contract extension. The contract is value at $63-$64 million.
The Canucks now have their first real franchise goalie. And there was much rejoicing...
So what does this all mean, and what is the next step for Mike Gillis?
Vancouver and the NTC

Mike Gillis has too many players and too much salary on the Canucks roster, and must shed a little of both before the October 1st deadline. However, the ideal players to trade away have no-trade clauses in their contracts.
That's a problem for Gillis, because he has to convince players to waive their NTC. Right now, how do you convince a player to leave Vancouver and the Canucks?
