Monte Carlo Method and Final Standing Predictions

Monte Carlo simulations are a really fun and interesting way to make predictions in just about anything, and this can be applied to many fields including hockey. Many different websites and experts use Monte Carlos to make predictions in hockey to determine final standings and points of teams. In this experiment, I create my own Monte Carlo to see if I can make similar prediction with reasonable outcomes. I then apply this method to the Vancouver Canucks and the Canadian teams in general.

In a surprise move it was recently reported that the Canucks have placed prospect defenceman Adam Polasek on unconditional waivers to have him bought out.  While there is little in terms of reports on this, it would appear to be a similar situation to Zack Hamill where Polasek had his contract bought out as he was not happy sitting in the ECHL and is looking to play elsewhere.

T'was the day before Christmas, and all through the smylosphere, not a blogger was stirring, except maybe @joshweissbock ...

While Christmas is here, most of hockey is quieting down, but not all the prospects are idle. This week's prospect report is a bit shorter than normal but it's just as full of prospect #fancystats including the first ever Estimated Usage Chart for any league outside of the NHL. Canucks Weekly Prospect Report - December 18th, 2013

It's been another exciting week for Canucks prospects as the Comets played 3 games in less than 72 hours, but they weren't going to throw out "schedule loss" as an excuse two days before the game has already started. The Comets are now officially 1/3 of the way through their inagural season. Things are starting to slow down for the WHL, OHL and NCAA but despite the holiday season there is still plenty of hockey to get updated on.
