The Canucks got back into action last night following their extended break for the Olympics, but let's not forget about the prospects we've been discussing and covering at length on this platform over the course of that time.

The return of the NHL presents the Utica Comets with an interesting scenario; if the Canucks continue to struggle with injuries, they could see some of their key players be taken away from them as they scratch and claw towards a playoff spot. We've seen Kellan Lain get called up so far, and others could potentially be on the way in the not-so-distant future. But as has been the case all year, this just means that someone else will have given an opportunity to step up and fill the void left behind.

Having played two games in the less than 48 hours (beating the Syracuse Crunch on Friday, and then the Binghamton Senators on Saturday), the Comets were in tough right from the jump when they took on the Albany Devils in their Sunday afternoon matinee. But three-game weekends are part of the deal in the AHL, and the Comets are no strangers to it by now.

Unfortunately the travel and exhaustion caught up to the Comets, and they lost to the Devils are by a close 2-1 margin.

24 hours after beating the Syracuse Crunch 2-1 the Comets were back on the road for a game against the Binghamton Senators. After a much more eventful game where goals, chances and the lead were traded back and forth it was Frank (The Tank) Corrado who pulled the Comets to give the Comets a 3-2 regulation win.

After having the last four days off the Utica Comets got back into action last night with the first leg of a back-to-back-to-back this weekend. One thing was certain: travel wouldn't be an issue, with the Comets playing next door in Syracuse, against the Crunch.

With the Thruway Throwdown on the line they managed to prevail 2-1 in overtime, and just past the jump you can read all about it.

Things are getting intense over in Sochi with the semi finals set to take place tomorrow morning. Obviously discussing how Canucks prospects are doing these days isn't nearly as fun as talking Canada/USA and what not, but the other leagues around the world have carried on without missing a beat during this NHL Olympic break, so we've got lots to look at as it relates to the former.
