Dreaming of a Canucks Winter Classic

On December 20th, 2010, the Vancouver Province posted an article that caused a good deal of buzz across Vancouver. The article stated that the Canucks hoped to host a Heritage Classic in their own backyard, at BC Place home of the Canadian Football League’s BC Lions.

Since then much has changed. While the first heritage classic was hosted in Edmonton and featured two Canadian NHL clubs, the event has since morphed into an annual parade of big East Coast clubs (the Penguins again!?). Finally this season, the Toronto Maple Leafs were to be featured, alongside a Western Conference team (for the first time since 2009) in the Detroit Red Wings. At this juncture, however, it doesn't even look like the game will be played...

There's lots of lockout talk these days, and I figure we could all use a harmless distraction. So how about we take a glance into the patented Canucks Army crystal ball, and dream about the Canucks being featured in an outdoor match-up in the near future.

Today's infographic takes a visual look at the Canucks’ final 13 games of the season. As you can see, the Canucks have an easy schedule. They host a majority of the remaining games, and they play opponents like Columbus and Edmonton, who are miles out of contention. This is good news for the worry warts, as the Canucks should manage some easy wins down the stretch. The outcome of the final 13 games can influence who the Canucks face when the playoffs roll around, and hopefully the team will manage to somehow stay motivated, and pile up some easy wins!

How This Canucks Season Stacks Up Against Last Season

There's been a fair bit of talk in print, on the radio and on social media about how this Canucks season compares with the one previous. SImply put: it's hard to judge a team that hasn't even finished what it started. That's why I decided to compare the stats from March 1st of last year's spectacular season, to March 1st of the current one. How do the two stack up?

As you can see, in some categories are the differences are very slim while others are drastically different. Even though the Sedins' production has slightly decreased, and the team has lost of 7 members from last years Stanley Cup Finals' team, the Canucks have a basically the same record, with one more game being played last year before March 1st:
