With the Canucks a mere few weeks from the NHL trade deadline, it's time to take stock of the position from which they're operating. For the purpose of today's exercise, we'll prioritize fiscal assets ahead of personnel.

Having a clearer picture of what the Canucks have regarding their forwards, defence, goaltending, dollars and contracts will provide insight into some moves, if they happen, in the coming weeks.

Over the course of the next month, I will be able to use this snapshot to analyze, suggest some ideas,  and create discussion, but for today, we are just visualizing where the organization stands.

Scouting the Dub - Prince George vs Vancouver

With the NHL past the mid season mark and many teams having just held their amateur scouting meetings, the 2017 NHL Entry Draft is starting to become a little more of a focus.

On Monday, the Prince George Cougars visited the Langley Events Centre for a date with the Vancouver Giants. There was quite a few scouts in attendance as it was the only Monday night game on the Calendar, and because Prince George boasts a newly highly acquired first round talent.

Canucks Army Midterm Prospect Rankings #2: Olli Juolevi

Olli Juolevi checks in as the second best Vancouver Canucks' prospect. A fitting distinction for the Finnish defenceman, selected with the Canucks fifth overall selection in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft.

Given Juolevi's lofty pedigree, there's no doubting his status as the best defensive prospect in the Canucks organization. The Canucks have long desired a number one defenceman, capable of eating minutes and playing in all situations. Ideally, Juolevi is their guy.

Time will tell if the Canucks took the right defenceman in the 2016 draft, but there is still high hopes that the smart, smooth skating, and positionally sound Juolevi will be the anchor for the Canucks back-end for years to come.
