Who is Carl Neill?
Selected in the 5th round, 144th overall by the Vancouver Canucks at the 2015 NHL Entry Draft, Carl Neill has caught the attention of many fans with his lofty point totals. That Neill remains the only Canucks prospect in the CHL to produce at over a point per game is especially daunting given he is a defenceman. The production is encouraging, but far from all encompassing. Let's delve deeper into the underdog story of Neill and unearth the remaining pieces to the puzzle.

The NHL Entry Draft is where teams are built, and by all accounts at the time, the Canucks walked away from this past draft with a decent crop of youngsters despite not having a second round pick. Since we are now 6 months after the 2015 NHL Entry Draft, I figured it would be a good time to take a look at who they selected and how they've done since June.
Also, I looked at the players that the Canucks skipped on, which are included in the 'notable passes' section for each player. (*note: these are all players picked after said player, and before the Canucks next pick). They aren't always players that the Canucks should've picked over their own pick, but definitely, players to keep an eye on going forward.

With the holidays upon us, the hockey schedule sees a little slow period. But some Canucks prospects still played games and made an impact in one way or another. However, the best news this week is that the World Juniors start on Saturday morning!
For next week's Blackfish, I will add Jake Virtanen and Brock Boeser's stats at the World Juniors. But until then, here is this weeks edition.

The weather outside is frightful and so was the Canucks game on Tuesday.
But luckily Canucks prospects continue to make some waves around the hockey world. The NCAA is now on their winter break with many of their freshman and sophomore off to compete at the World Juniors. While the KHL and SHL enjoy extended breaks before Christmas.
Every week, former Canucks Army writer Josh used to gather all the prospect stats and compile them into a one article for everyone's viewing pleasure. Jeremy was nice enough to take last weeks as I got my feet under me as the new Canucks Army contributor. But now the honour has been bequeathed upon me to carry on the important tradition of Blackfish. Expect the same detail of the stats and breakdown of the week as before, but more gifs. I make gifs regularly for Canucks prospects, so why not use them?
Without further ado, here is this week's Blackfish!
