Canucks Recall Alex Biega, Reassign Alexandre Grenier

With the injury to Alex Edler (which has resulted in surgery and a 4-6 week timetable for return), the Canucks needed to bring in an extra defenceman. The easy choice was Alex Biega, who was in Utica on a conditioning assignment. Unfortunately, the Canucks were already at their limit for Alex's, meaning that Alexandre Grenier needed to be sent back to Utica to make space.

Canucks Prospect Guillaume Brisebois Invited to Canada's World Junior Selection Camp

For each of the last four World Junior Championships, Team Canada has been represented by a Canucks prospect (twice by Bo Horvat and twice by Jake Virtanen). While Vancouver's most recent first round selections hail from Finland and the United States, 2015 third round pick Guillaume Brisebois is intent on making sure that the Canucks are represented once again.

Hockey Canada announced their list of invites to their 2016 Junior Selection Camp, and Brisebois has made the cut.

Alex Edler To Undergo Surgery on Broken Finger, Will Miss 4-6 Weeks

The Canucks announced this morning that Alex Edler, who was injured blocking a shot in the Colorado game on Saturday, will undergo surgery today to repair a fractured index finger and is expected to miss 4-6 weeks. So that's not good.

The Canucks, who were already missing their other top pairing defenceman, Chris Tanev, will now have to figure some way to stay afloat with a mishmash of rookies and defensive defencemen.

15 games into the season, the Comets finally won consecutive contests. In fact, following Wednesday's win over Syracuse (which isn't covered in this article), they're actually up to three wins in a row. Not bad!

The Comets had some decent offensive performances last week, scoring nine goals over three games, with multiple young players riding goal and point streaks through the end of the week. Could the Comets be poised for a turnaround? Let's dig in to the week that was.

Canucks Call Up Joseph LaBate

With the news this morning that Derek Dorsett may be heading for the Injured Reserve, speculation was abound about who the Canucks might call up in his stead. While Alex Grenier leads the team in scoring, AHL contracted players Curtis Valk and Darren Archibald are on hot streaks, and Jake Virtanen is also there, the Canucks opted to go with Joe LaBate, as he is clearly the Dorsett-iest player available.
