Last night, the Canucks failed to close out their second round series against Nashville – losing 4-3 at home. The loss was followed by inevitable hand-wringing from fans and media, but this somewhat irrational despair ignores the fact that the Canucks outplayed the Preds in nearly every respect. The Preds had the edge in two major categories: goaltending and goals scored. Unfortunately those are the most important categories. Nonetheless, the Canucks performance was solid, and I see no reason for panic. The Canucks out possessed, out-hit, out-chanced, out-shot, and – with the exception of Henrik Sedin (more on this in a minute) – they dominated the face-off circle against the Preds.

Game Day Recon: Western Conference Semifinal Game 5 - Predators @ Canucks

Two weeks ago, the panic level amongst Canucks fans went through the roof, as the Canucks failed, then failed again, then failed again, to eliminate the Chicago Blackhawks.

Well that was then, and this is now. And the Canucks aren't playing the Blackhawks anymore.

Can the Vancouver Canucks prove that they're ruthless and eliminate the Nashville Predators tonight?

“Without The Slightest Contribution”

I’ve been delighted to see how three games can change the perception of a player. The Ryan Kesler bandwagon is in full swing, with the shutdown of the Toews line approaching the status of legend and his recent outburst against the Predators erasing the memories of his offensively inept first round against Chicago.

The flip side, at least in some quarters, has been the disparagement of the Sedin twins (pictured above).

Game Review: Western Conference Semfinal Game 4 - Canucks @ Predators

The Vancouver Canucks played arguably their most dominant game against the Nashville Predators last night. And it was a well-worn cliche that finally got them there.

On Thursday, the Canucks' best players were their best players. And once again, #17 led the way.
