The Playoff Prediction Project, Round 2

The first round of the playoffs is over, and it was a doozy. The best part is, there are three rounds to go, and the hockey isn’t likely to get any worse as time goes on.

After the jump, it’s time to make Round Two predictions.

Round One predictions can be found here. Scoring is as follows:

  1. Best series prediction record (length excluded)
  2. Tie-breaker one: Most accurate prediction in the Stanley Cup finals (winner and length)
  3. Tie-breaker two: Highest number of correct predictions (both series and length)

Writer predictions are below, and will, be updated as they come in:

Writer VAN/NSH Games S.J./DET Games WAS/T.B. Games PHI/BOS Games
Davie VAN 6 S.J. 6 WAS 5 BOS 7
Drance VAN 6 S.J. 6 WAS 7 BOS 6
Gregor VAN 6 DET 5 WAS 6 PHI 7
Lansky VAN 5 S.J. 6 WAS 4 BOS 5
Lowetide VAN 6 S.J. 7 WAS 6 BOS 7
Steinberg VAN 6 S.J. 7 WAS 5 BOS 6
Wanye NSH 6 DET 6 WAS 7 BOS 7
Willis VAN 6 S.J. 6 WAS 6 PHI 7
Wilson VAN 5 S.J. 7 WAS 6 PHI 7
Consensus VAN 8-1 S.J. 7-2 WAS 9-0 BOS 6-3

I’d like to invite everyone who participated in Round One to chime in below with their predictions; the contest is open until puck drop of Game One.

Sheldon,

Pronger is normally the difference maker, but not if he can't grip his stick because his hand is totally borked.

http://www.thehockeynews.com/articles/39861-Campbell-Flyers-deny-Chris-Pronger-injury-is-worse-than-first-thought.html

A Philadelphia television station reported that Pronger, who is recovering from surgery on his right wrist, actually has a fracture in his hand that requires a plate and that he is unable to grip a stick.

I guess you will win this one. If you are right I think you will be one of two with those 4 teams winning. Going against the grain is for sure but this is hockey.

VAN 6 ------ NSH's scoring touch in the playoffs isn't likely to continue. While Weber is watching the sisters, the Kesler show will begin.

SJS 6 ------ SJS only lost one game to DET this year, and it was the first one. They only got better as season progressed. If Heatley wakes up, it might even be a sweep on the old guys.

WAS 6 ------ Even though Roloson is the second coming of Jesus, even HE can't help this one. This isn't a beat-up bunch of Penguins.

BOS 6 ------ Pronger won't be healthy enough to make a difference. BOS has the goaltending, and they learned from last year.

Preds in 6 - Sedin Sisters were a noshow against the Hawks and the Preds are tighter defensively and have better goaltending. If Luongo plays entirely like he did in games 4 and 5 against the Hawks, Preds in 5.

Wings in 6 - There's something about the Sharks not winning big series in the playoffs. Kings should have been a pushover and weren't. And Detroit always has that playoff magic.

Caps in 5 - Sorry Rollie, this won't be like your year with the Oil in 06. Ovie takes the team on his back and the crush the Bolts

Bruins in 7 - Probably the toughest series to call, but the Bruins have the Vezina winner again.

My picks

Van (when does the crying & diving stop? once I stop gagging or when SJ wipes the floor with them.) SJ - depth @ cntr period. TB - It's Rolli's year, and the top end talent is more composed. Plus TB wins the coaching battle by a country mile. PHI - if they can spot buff 3 goals a game and win against Miller, they can do it against Bos who had a hard time with MTL.
