A hockey-crazed Flames fan living in Oil Country, he was born & raised to hate the Oilers from day 1. Since he couldn't cut it as a player, and his dream jobs of 'NHL Insider', NHL General Manager, or Snoop Dogg 'advisor' aren't currently options, a lifetime of "internetting" awaits. I don't know about you, but from where I sit Jarome Iginla has pretty much shoved it up the backsides of his critics once and for all.

;-)

You realize you're begging for a 2,800-word response as to why he's not wrong . . .

One other thing: how is it, Mr. Creek, that a green-as-grass scribbler such as yourself, somebody with no writing resume of note, no *multiple international writing awards and no national (or provincial and maybe even civic) profile has a bio eight lines long at the end of this article?

You know, I hate you most days. (Flames fan that you are) But it is Olympic season and we are one (for now, you greasy bastard).* Therefore, well played good sir.

I do fear that the sample size is too small and the qual-comp for Iginla's line was less than stellar because Babcock was sheltering them from the toughs.

This next bit came from the end of Tyler's 2,800-word essay defending his comments about Miller being an average to slightly-above-average goaltender . . .

"Personally, I wouldn’t bet anything on Miller continuing his performance and if you asked me to guess his save percentage for the life of his contract, I’d probably have him at something like .915 to .920. We’ll see what happens."

So, .915 to .920 by his own estimate, then? For context, here's how that stacks up with NHL career leaders for saves percentage, as per Hockey Reference (note the guy who is already in eighth spot).

1. Dominik Hasek .9223 2. Roberto Luongo .9191 3. Tim Thomas .9178 4. Henrik Lundqvist .9172 5. Tomas Vokoun .9168 6. Cristobal Huet .9148 7. Miikka Kiprusoff .9140 8. Ryan Miller .9138 9. Martin Brodeur .9136 10. Jean-Sebastien Giguere .9135

Draw your own conclusions.

These games are kind of no-win for Canada. If they win big, everyone goes "it's just Norway" if they only win by a couple everyone freaks out (see: first period). If they lose ... well, yes, that is obviously no-win, har har.

Sure Jerome had a great game, but popping Norwegian Wood against a team like this tonight doesn't exactly put him in the Canadian Olympic Hall of Fame yet!

Does anyone remember who the poster here was that watched a game with someone that thought he was Irish (Jarro McGinla)? I say that in my head now everytime I hear his name.

Fun thread.

1. Iginla has declined. Of course, the drop-off from 'franchise talent and arguably top-5 forward in the NHL' to simply 'very good player' is a forgiving one. A hattrick against carpenter Pal Grotnes and his backup doesn't change that, but it is kind of a funny contrast to a foolish prediction.

2. I know we like to pick on the Pouliot/Getzlaf switch, but in honour of the former's recent transformation into what looks like an NHL player, can we hammer Lowe for not getting Getzlaf back in the Pronger trade instead? Or better yet, let's focus on passing up on Corey Perry in favour of Jeff Woywitka.

3. cableguy - like the Khabibulin signing?

4. What a one-sided game. Good to see the Canadians starting so strongly, especially after the first intermission 'the power play is just like Turin' jitters.

5. My TV is still on, and Johnny Weir is busy dispelling every single stereotype about male figure skaters with his pretty pink outfit, makeup, interesting wave, and girlish shrug. Interesting stuff.

If Tyler was looking for something to hang his hat on, he wouldn't have to go very far back.

Just saying.

It has no bearing on his comment about that could Irish boy MacGinla, just on the notion that he's frantically rooting through his posts looking for something he said that looks good in retrospect.

Dont get fooled by Pouliot again. He's streakier than Nilsson. Some days you see the rough version of a talented and opportunistic centre, most of the time he cant be found on the ice.

That said, lets just shake our heads at everything to do with Perry, Getzlaf, Woywitka, and Pouliot...and then pretend like nothing happened. It's too depressing otherwise.

@ Archaeologoy:

It's a philosophical debate now, but I'd have loved to see what Pouliot could turn into without injuries. His draft year (pre-Crosby) he was pretty much the only guy going on one of the worst teams in Major Junior.

I still think he could turn into a bigger version of Marty Reasoner, and frankly this team could use Marty Reasoner. Modest goals.

Then again, maybe he'll get the Brodziak treatment and get shipped away for a lousy draft pick in the summer.

Wow. Braincramp.

I looked at the U.S./Switzerland boxscore and saw the American's first goal was scored by "Robert Ryan".

As you might imagine, I had no clue who this Robert ryan was, so I frantically started searching, thinking I'd missed a big story.

Turns out that "Bobby" is short for "Robert".
