Unfortunately, there was something off with the NHL gamesheets last night, which is why Cam Ward doesn't appear in the count for entire 3rd period. As a result, the Canucks appear to be on a PP for the final frame, but that's not true. The overall count is right, but the total for VAN at ES and PP are off.

Other items:

- Kesler was finally rewarded for his play, scoring his first of the season. The concerns around his start are overwrought...he's outchanced the competition in both games counted thus far but the bounces haven't been on his side.

Thanks to Passive Voice for counting this game.

Vancouver more or less controlled the first seventeen minutes of the game. Carolina's only chances before the late PP were on a terrible giveaway by Ehrror (to Patrick O'Sullivan) and on a (Cole?) shot from between the circles with Bieksa*** right in the guy's face. Vancouver was spending weeks at a time in Carolina's zone.

Carolina definitely improved thereafter (which is perhaps to be expected given the score), but I think it was more even than the 2-to-1 ratio for Carolina counted here. For instance, that little run of three chances in the second was caused by Hamhuis blowing a tire (he felt he'd been interfered with, I think) leading to a scrum around the net.

By the same token, I felt that after an initial barrage on Ward, the Canucks went back to being too finicky with their passing (e.g. Raffi Torres' attempting to slide it over to Malhotra at 1645 in the 2nd, which play I didn't count as a scoring chance because the Canucks somehow managed to get no shots off). Although I suppose it's a tad hypocritical to complain about extra passes given Raymond's first goal, which saw Tambellini's no-look backhand change-up of a pass split two Canes, go through the legs of a third, and then finally through a *second* pair of Hurricane legs (these ones moving) before Raymond put it home.

***For some reason, the official Play-by-Play lists the defence pairing on at this point as being Ehrhoff with Hamhuis, even though it's pretty clearly a RHS wearing #3. I'll chalk it up to scorer error.
