This is a new feature here at Canucks Army. As much as possible, we will try to provide scoring chance counts for individual Canucks games as the season progress.

How to read these tables:

Table 1 - Notes the time of the game the scoring chance happened as well as who was on the ice for each team.

Tables 2 - Is the scoring chance count for and against for each Canuck player. "Chances for" at each game state are in the left hand column, while "against" is the right hand column.

Table 3 - The chances for and against for each team by period.

Scoring chance defintion - a shot directed at the net from the prime scoring area on the ice. The scoring area is defined a triangle extending from the crease, through the inside of the face-off dots to the top of the circles. Excluded are obvious fans, shots blocked close to the source as well as "chances at chances" (passes through the crease) and deflections that aren't purposeful.

Discussion

The Canucks outchanced the Kings marginally at ES in regulation and especially in the second period when they were dominant. Vancouver won the chance count 18-12 before the extra period, but the penalty in OT allowed the Kings to catch things up. The best trio by this measure overall in game was Kesler's line, who were +3 each.

Not too shocking to see three of the new guys - Hamhuis, Malhotra and Ballard - leading the SH time.

It's tough to get a good read on Malhotra's line at ES. Torres looks great at ES but Malhotra and Hansen don't, though Torres doesn't touch the ice during a PK.

Wow, Kent, thanks so much, this is awesome. Are you guys taking turns to do the scoring chances?

I like the fact that the fourth line, while not getting any chances, at least didn't give any up. The season is long, but I wonder how many times that could be said about last year's 4th line.
